Childhood Nostalgia

Where has he gone? Where is he now?

Slipped through our fingers, he drifted away

Lost to the days gone by

Now a memory adrift in sky

Cause he was the wind

Whispering playfully through leaves

Dancing windstorms among trees

Weaving tapestries in the breeze

We were swept away by well-worn paths

While he carved his own

Rearing, roaring, he soared

Winding upwards, a spirit unmoored

We terrorized of unknowns at silvers of dawn

While he exalted each moment, as if aflame

Living life as it came

in sudden

bursts, broken

fragments, relentless

hopes

In a tormenting sun, he was a soothing balm to thirsting shadows

In an ever-reaching desert, he was a shelter from scorching heat

In a disquieted heart, he was a message to rumbling misgivings

In a hectic-chaotic world, he was the calm before mornings

Afraid, we existed within the boundaries of our norms

Sheltered against life’s sudden storms

Fearless, he ran, merry and free

Never hesitating to swim against the sea

He was a wandering, daring soul

Where did he come from, we never knew

Touching our hearts, then vanishing away

An unfettered soul who didn’t stay

Where has he gone? Where is he now?

Slipped through our fingers, he drifted away

Lost to the days gone by

Now a memory adrift in sky

Inspiration

Inspired by a song’s lyrics. Aware some of the sentiments are cliché.

Process

Free verse. I wanted to play with language and words.
