I Am Mother Nature

If I am the sun all-aglow, then you are the doomed, Icarus, fated to woe

If I am the healing rain, then you are the tortured soul screaming in pain

If I am the bountiful sea, then you are the cursed one ravaging me

If I am the nourishing life, then you are the plague yielding the knife

If I am the invigorating breath, then you are the unfortunate harbinger of death

If I am the balm to your strife, then you are the siphoning parasite draining my life

If I am to bear the brunt of your desires, then you are the famished taker stoking the fire

If I am to keep tallying score, then you are demanding still more

If I am the giver to your kind, then you are the destroyer of mankind

If I am in hopeless disrepair, then you will be the sufferer lost in despair

If I am the home where your child resides, then you must be the truth bearer and decide!

If I am the answer to your earnest prayer, then you must be the seeker, so seek with care!

The world is shaking, and you are the rumbling

The world is rotting, and you will be rotting with me

Inspiration

Written on Earth’s Day, 4/22/22, this is a poem from Nature’s perspective about itself and on mankind.

Process

Tried to utilize the refrain, “If I am…” to create the piece.
