NYC Life

NYC Life is a series of four artworks that takes inspiration from the NYC landscape. The Empire State building, One World Trade Center and the NYC skyline are all present in the collection. Since I took such heavy inspiration from the NYC landscape - the place where I grew up and live - it seems apt to name this collection, NYC Life.

All of the artworks in this collection started off as a photo taken on the iPhone by me. Then I used various apps to compose and create each individual artwork. ArtStudio being the primary one. Followed by the Reflect app being the second most used one.

Dream Away

I had taken a photograph of the Empire State Building on my iPhone, but did not like the bottom half of the photograph. However, I still wanted to create something with the photograph.

So I thought long and hard. Then thought of NYC's future as climate change becomes imminent. So I imagined the famous landmark underwater.

The finished artwork on the left is what came out.

Summer Set

I took this photograph - on iPhone - of the NYC skyline from the Staten Island ferry. While I did not like the distortion from the camera lens at the edge of the photograph, I wanted to create something magical with the photo.

So I took inspiration from the fantastic summer sunsets NYC has and this piece came out.

Underwater

I took this photograph - on iPhone - at night while the World Trade Center Building was lit up for LGBTQ pride month. After living in NY for so many years, it was my first time seeing the building light up like so. I had to take the photograph.

To create the artwork, I dramatized certain aspects of the photograph. The moon was already there. I augmented it. Similarly with what I had done for the artwork, Dream Away in this collection, I submerged the World Trade Center Building underwater. Imagined what this iconic landmark would look like underwater because of climate change.

I took this photograph of NYC's skyline - again on my iPhone - then darkened it. So only the silhouette of the buildings is visible.

The main addition I made to the artwork is the sky, the red moon and cloud. Otherwise, the composition is fairly simple.
