Cathartic Sleep

Our breaths mix

Fast         and       furious

The fire in our chest

Breathes and brews writhes curls and unfurls

       Into a living, breathing entity

That fires through our mouth our eyes our hands

Hurts our tender hearts

So when our breaths match

Slow deep

       Know our breaths

While you sleep

Forgive and forget everything

I have done you wrong for

Everything will

Collide and collapse

When our breath comes as one

In this moment of clarity let it last

While we are in harmony

Shatter our words

Wounds inflicted

Heal

Every ties every wrong

I have done to   you

So       let it     last

Let it last

Inspiration

Thoughts I had, one night, while in middle school, laying next to my mother after an argument.

Process

Written in one day. The spacing/structure of the poem was inspired after reading "Illumination" by Natalie Tretheway.
