Jealous Sentiment
You look sweet as rain
like fresh pearl
and blue ember
Eyes sparkling
with all the sins of
past September
Not that I begrudge you
your claim to fame
But what I wouldn’t do
to have your reign
Master of your own world
while I watch from the sideline
What’s it’s like —
having the world as your pipeline?
But I could forgo
all that, and more
What sticks to the craw
the most
Are the thousand lifes
you boasts
The grand adventures and detours
Because I have stayed and whiled away
all the last of my days
to a schism-numbing end
on promises of possibilities
— unclaimed
And they were all mine to hold
too much of a coward, did as I was told
Now full of regret, I am cold… old
Why did I not unfold
been uncontrolled and gone bold
Inspiration
The first line popped out after staring at a picture of a famous singer. The first three stanzas are my imaginative take/commentary of her life. The next three stanzas are a narrative of my life, in juxtaposition. The whole poem is centered on feeling jealous about another person's career.
Process
Loosely follows a rhyming scheme.
