The Lone Yellow Leaf
Amid the clutter in our living room
Beyond the drone of the TV’s boom
Over my mother’s ceaseless chatter
Life passing by — in constant clatter
I watch
The lone yellow leaf
It fascinates me
Captivates me
Draws me in
In stillness
In silence
I watch
My gaze zeroed in
On the lone, singular hue
Vibrant amid the green throng
Swaying gently, as if in song
Fluttering — Beckoning —
Waving — a wordless hello
And it carries me
To a time long gone
Because here is proof
That summer has flown
Time sped by in a roaring tear
While I stood — just here
and nothing in me changed
Inspiration
I got the idea to write this poem after seeing a yellow leaf in a tree from my living room.
